Becoming a KidZone or Youth Volunteer

Investing in the lives of the next generation is an important way of passing on your faith to the children and teens who are the future of the church. At Grand Valley we believe that our childrens and youth ministry are vital ways that we empower and encourage the next generation to become who God wants them to be.

There are a few extra steps to take before you can become a KidZone or a Youth Volunteer. These steps are:

1. Provide Two Character References

Please click the button below to provide the names and contact information for two character references who have each known you for a time period of one year, and are capable of providing a reference for you to serve with children and/or teens. Please provide both an email address and a phone number for the character reference if possible.

2. Complete A Criminal Record Check

You will need to have a criminal record check completed before volunteering. Once completed, a criminal record check is considered valid for three years until it will need to be renewed. We will accept photocopies of previously completed criminal record checks, providing they were completed within the past twelve months.

  • Where you need to go for a criminal record check depends on where you live. If you live within the city of Brandon, then the check can be completed at the Brandon Police Service. If you live outside of Brandon it can be completed at your local R.C.M.P. detachment. If you live on the base at C.F.B. Shilo, the criminal record check can be completed by the Military Police. If the police department requires a letter from the church stating that you are a volunteer, please contact the church office and we can provide that for you.

  • If there are any costs to have your criminal record check done, please save your receipts and bring them into the church. We will reimburse you for the cost of this criminal record check.

3. Complete a Manitoba Child Abuse Registry Check

The Manitoba Child Abuse Registry check is completed through the church. You will need to bring two pieces of valid government issued ID that we can photocopy and send away with the form. There is no cost for this check.

4. Complete an Online "Keep Kids Safe" Training Course

We have an online training course that takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete that teaches you about our KidZone or Youth Ministry and how to ensure that we are creating a safe environment for children and teens. The instructions on how to access this course will be emailed to you.

Thank you for your willingness to complete these steps, it is an important part of creating a safe and fun environment for children and teens to learn about their faith in God.
